Six Clubs & Organizations for First-Year Students

Don’t Wait to Take Advantage of Everything Wildcat Life Has to Offer

As a new student at the University of Arizona, you might be wondering how to make friends and get involved on campus. Joining a club or student organization is one of the best ways you can put yourself out there and maximize your experience as a Wildcat.

The best news of all? The U of A offers hundreds of opportunities to choose from, so you’re bound to find a few that fit your interests. From ballroom dance to roller derby, astronomy to pickleball, there’s something for everyone.

To help you get started, we’ve rounded up a handful of the top options for first-year students.

1. Associated Students of the University of Arizona (ASUA)

Looking to make your voice heard and give back to the Wildcat community? Consider joining ASUA, the university’s official student government. You’ll get to influence university policies, volunteer in a number of ways, plan exciting campus events, run for leadership positions, and so much more.

2. Blue Chip Leadership Experience

If you want to give your résumé a boost, the Blue Chip Leadership Experience may be the perfect fit for you. Although it requires taking for-credit courses, it’s so much more than sitting in a classroom. Blue Chip gives you the chance to hone your leadership abilities through teamwork and collaboration, internships, and other professional experiences.

3. Fraternity & Sorority Programs

The U of A is home to more than 50 fraternity and sorority organizations, which means there are many ways to find one that’s right for you. If you’re interested in learning more, check out our in-depth Guide to Fraternities and Sororities.

4. Students for Sustainability

Passionate about plastic and other environmental topics? Check out Students for Sustainability, a group of students who are passionate about promoting sustainability on campus and in the community. You can also get involved with Compost Cats, an award-winning food-scrap collection and composting program.

5. Club and Intramural Sports

Stay active and fuel your competitive side by joining a club sport or intramural sport through Campus Recreation. Choose from numerous options ranging from sports like basketball or tennis, or opt into niche offerings like dodgeball or e-sports.

6. Cultural & Resource Centers

Discover welcoming communities and get involved with causes you care about at our Cultural and Resource Centers. Many students say they’re a “home away from home” where you’ll connect to resources and grow your network.

Still can’t find what you’re looking for?

If you’ve browsed the hundreds of clubs at the U of A and still can’t find what you’re looking for, you always have the option to start your own. You’ll have to meet some requirements (including finding a club advisor) which are outlined in ASUA’s Club Handbook.
